As a fan of wind sports like windsurfing, kite surfing, sailing, foiling, paragliding or other, we've got some exciting news for you! We provide live wind data from our weather stations located at various wind-sport spots in South Africa through our unique Wind Widget and map interface. This way, you can easily check the wind conditions and location information before heading out for your wind sport adventure.
Our main emphasis revolves around wind speed, direction, and other pertinent factors such as tides and water levels, wherever applicable. While we aren't a forecasting service, we strive to equip you with up-to-date and short-term historical data from our weather stations.
It all started when two windsurfers (who also happen to be engineers) from a small windsurfing/kiting community in the Western Cape, South Africa, got frustrated with the variety of weather station interfaces that didn't present the wind information in a way they required for their sports. They conceptualized what they would like to see on a dashboard for their sailing and continue to refine the Wind Widget, related data screens and other functionality.
As the Wind Widget was being built and shared with sailors around South Africa for technical input and criticism, the brand Wind2Speed was born. Through trial and error, and much input/feedback, we launched in December 2022.
We believe that wind sports offer holistic health benefits, both mentally and physically, for anyone who is interested and capable of participating. In a world where we live mostly sedentary lifestyles behind screens, we want to promote the building of communities of wind-sport enthusiasts to promote healthy outdoor activities. Rather than being confined to the indoors, we aim to inspire all age groups to discover the joy of learning and mastering the art of harnessing the wind to experience exhilarating speed.
